Routine maintenance is critical for safe and effective operation of your wood burning home heating appliances.

This North Idaho masonry chimney serves a stove in the basement which is kept burning all winter long, it is suffering from a severe lack of maintenance. There is so much creosote build up that it is actually reducing the diameter of the flue, constricting the chimney and causing a partial blockage. This was causing smoke to back up in to the living area. The chimney couldn’t breathe!

The chimney was treated with a creosote modifier.

After giving the modifier a week to act (a fire must be burned as the modifier is heat activated) the chimney was rotary deglazed with cables.

After proper sweeping the chimney drafts and the stove no longer pollutes the living area with smoke.
