A wood-burning stove is a great investment for your home. While it’s true that old wood stoves weren’t environmentally friendly by any means, it’s also true that wood is a great source of heat and a renewable resource that’s readily available. For many, there’s just nothing like a real wood fire.
Luckily, many advancements have been made to wood-burning technology, and modern wood stoves still maintain all that classic charm, but now are more efficient and cleaner burning than they once were. And I am here to keep things that way.
That’s why I offer wood stove troubleshooting, repair, service, and installation throughout Spokane, Post Falls, Hayden Lake, Dalton Gardens, and the surrounding communities. I want to make sure your wood stove brings you years of comfort and that you can enjoy it without worry or problems.
How can I help?
Troubleshooting & Repairs
Smoke issues and back puffing are common complaints among homeowners with wood stoves. The cause can be a number of things, including:
- loose, worn gasket or other issue that prevent the door from being airtight
- poor draft due to a poorly sized or installed stove pipe
- unseasoned wood
- blockages in the venting system
But the good news is, whatever’s causing your wood stove to excessively smoke, I can stop it. I replace gasketing, install stove pipe, clean stove pipe and venting systems (removing creosote buildup, nests, and other debris), and can educate you on what to look for when buying firewood.
Smoke problems aren’t the only ones I solve for my customers in Coeur d’Alene and the neighboring communities. I troubleshoot and repair a host of issues using proven testing and diagnostics. I’ll figure out exactly what’s going on so I can make recommendations and repairs that will actually fix the problem and prevent future problems. If you need replacement parts, I’ll take care of it. If you need a stove pipe sweeping, I’ll take care of it. Whatever it is, you can count on Armour Chimney Service.
Like all other hearth appliances, wood stoves need ongoing maintenance, service, and cleanings. From annual inspections and sweepings to glazed creosote removal, you can count on me to do whatever it takes to keep your wood stove working as safely and as efficiently as it should. Wood stoves don’t have to be inefficient and wasteful, but without proper maintenance and periodic service, they can be. Keep yours working like a charm by making regular service a part of your maintenance routine.
Replacing your old stove or installing a new, efficient, EPA-certified wood stove is environmentally neutral, renewable, and will allow you to get the most BTUs for your buck. Most wood stoves manufactured today are functional and attractive. Not only can they have the capacity to heat your entire home, they look good doing it.
As a wood stove heats up during burning, it radiates heat through the metal walls and the stove top. Radiant heat warms the area immediately surrounding the stove and can be moved to other parts of the home via the home’s natural air flow or free-standing fans or ceiling fans. Some stoves also have built-in electric or convention powered fans to help circulate the heat.
Some high-end wood stoves combine radiant and convection heating into a single appliance by using a convection chamber, which wraps around the firebox. This convection channel draws cool air in and warms it before circulating it back into the room.
Modern EPA-certified stoves are around 1/3 more efficient than the old style box stoves. That means 1/3 less wood to buy, cut, haul, split, and burn. Modern stoves also produce about 90% less smoke than older stoves. That means less particulate matter, cleaner air, and happier neighbors who aren’t getting smoked out.
If you want your new wood stove to bring you years of warmth and comfort, you need to make sure it’s installed by someone with the experience and training to do the job right. Whether you’re replacing an old worn out, environmentally harmful wood stove with a new, cleaner-burning stove or I am installing a wood stove in your home or business for the first time, trust the job to Armour Chimney Service. I am NFI -Certified Wood Specialist and I’ll make sure the stove is installed properly and quickly. Everything will be done to manufacturer’s standards so you won’t have to worry about any surprises or performance issues when you fire her up.

Note: Washington has strict laws about wood stoves. To be sold in Washington, all wood-burning appliances must meet both EPA’s standards and Washington’s stricter standards. Before buying or installing your new wood stove, check to make sure it meets the required standards. You may also need a permit and inspection from your local building department prior to installing a new wood-burning appliance.
